KY CCDW Class  –March 23, 2024 from 8:00am-4:30pm – CANCELLED

This course is approved by the Kentucky State Police and satisfies the classroom and range requirements to earn the necessary certificate to apply for your CCDW permit. Course topics include gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. A certificate of completion will be given to all passing students. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled.

NRA First Steps of Pistol ShootingNo classes currently scheduled

3 hours classroom time
1 hour range time – (less than 50 rounds)

This is NRA’s most basic pistol class, designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled.

 

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting No classes currently scheduled

Course topics include gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. This is an 8-hour course and may either be taught straight through in one day or split up over two or more days. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled.

 

Intro to HandgunNo classes currently scheduled

2 hours classroom time
1 hour range time (50 rounds)

This class is great for those considering their first handgun purchase, new shooters, or anyone who would just like to build their confidence by safely handling, loading, unloading, and shooting a handgun under the direction of a qualified instructor. We will discuss different types of handguns, firearms safety (both in the home and on the range), and learn the fundamentals of pistol shooting, including proper grip, stance, trigger control, sight alignment, and more. *You do not need your own gun to take this class, just let me know when you register if you will need to use one of mine. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

 

Defensive HandgunNo classes currently scheduled

1 hour classroom time
2 hours range time (100 rounds)

This class will cover safely drawing from a holster, engaging multiple targets, reloads, and cover and concealment. You will need a sturdy belt, a holster that covers the trigger and is rigid enough to allow you to safely re-holster your firearm, at least two magazines, and magazine pouches. Please bring a handgun you are comfortable with shooting and know how to operate. If you are not comfortable loading, shooting, and unloading your own handgun, please take our Intro to Handgun, NRA First Steps of Pistol, or NRA Basics of Pistol Shooing prior to registering for this class. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

 

NRA First Steps of Rifle ShootingNo classes currently scheduled

Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting No classes currently scheduled

This course is at least 8 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled.

 

Intro to Carbine  –  May 2, 2026 from 9:00am-1:00pm – Register for this class

2-1/2 hours classroom time
1/2 hour range time (50 rounds or less)

This is a basic rifle class geared toward those who are new to the AR platform. It will cover firearm and range safety, nomenclature and function of the main parts of the rifle, field stripping and basic maintenance, zeroing and confirming sights and/or optics at different distances, weapon manipulation, shooting positions, how to clear common malfunctions, and more. Slings will not be used in this class. Please bring your rifle, at least one magazine, an empty chamber indicator (if you do not have an ECI, I will have some for purchase at the class), eye and ear protection, and at least 20 rounds of ammunition. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

 

Basic Carbine Skills Drills  – June 6, 2026 from 9:00am-12:00pm – Register for this class

3 hours range time (100 rounds or less)

This class is for those who have taken the Intro to Carbine class and want to continue building their rifle skills, but are still new to the AR platform. In this class, we will perform basic drills that focus on fundamentals and reinforce safe handling and manipulation of your rifle. This is an excellent primer for the Intermediate Carbine Skills Drills series. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

3 hours range time (round count varies, plan to bring at least 150 rounds)

This is a series of intermediate classes designed for the AR platform – This is not a beginners class! Please be sure your rifle is zeroed and be comfortable with manipulations, moving with the rifle, and getting into various and sometimes difficult shooting positions. You will learn techniques to safely perform these actions, then reinforce what you’ve learned with a specific set of drills.  Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This class is different each month, so attend more than one, or come to them all.  This is not an NRA class.

Intro to Trap – no classes currently scheduled

10 students max.
90 minutes classroom time
30 minutes range time (25 shells)

We will discuss safety, eye dominance, stance, mounting the gun, leading the target and more, then finish by shooting and scoring one round of trap. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

 

Intro to Skeetno classes currently scheduled

10 students max.
90 minutes classroom time
30 minutes range time (25 shells)

We will discuss safety, eye dominance, stance, mounting the gun, leading the target and more, then finish by shooting and scoring one round of skeet. Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.

 

Defensive ShotgunMay 9, 2026 from 9:00am-1:00pm – Register for this class

10 students max.
4 hours range time
minimum shell count: 25 birdshot (#7.5 or #8 lead), 10 “00” buckshot, and 5 slugs

We will discuss safety, eye dominance, stance, loading, unloading, mounting the gun, different action types, various types of ammunition and their effective range, and more.  Registration and pre-payment are required. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled. This is not an NRA class.
